Grand Mesa CPAs, LLC is committed to providing a complete range of professional tax and accounting services, all with personal attention and at affordable fees. We pledge to create an environment that will cause each of our clients to view us as a trusted business adviser.
We trace our personal service culture to our founder Edwin C Branson who started his practice of public accounting in Western Colorado on August 1, 1994. Ed’s day to day dedication to promoting these values within the Grand Mesa CPAs family is the key to our strong growth. Ed’s enthusiasm and honest desire to develop and mentor young professionals is evident in the following members of the Grand Mesa CPAs family:
Alan Watkins, CPA
My career in public accounting began after a successful career in banking where I served as a commercial loan officer for community banks for over ten years. As a commercial loan officer I worked with small to medium sized businesses in a wide variety of industries which required a broad knowledge of small business operations and management issues. My education includes a masters degree in Accounting, a bachelors degree in Finance, and a graduate certificate in Community Bank Management.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my wife Aimee, and our two children. My hobbies are primarily outdoor related including hiking, mountain biking, camping and fishing. Volunteering continues to be a passion for me as I continue to serve on the board of various non-profits.
Denise Downey, CPA
My career in public accounting includes over twenty years of service in the areas of tax preparation and accounting services. This provides me with a broad range of experience to do what I enjoy most, helping clients navigate through the ever-changing landscape of both small business tax and accounting and individual tax planning and preparation.
During my leisure time, I enjoy gardening, hiking with our dogs, reading and spending time with my husband and family.
Peri Ann Unfred, CPA
Twenty-four years ago, I began my career in tax and accounting services focusing on the bookkeeping and payroll functions. I finished my accounting degree and have been a licensed CPA for seven years. I enjoy helping people with their business and personal tax preparation needs. My favorite part about being a CPA has been developing relationships with clients.
My husband and I have four children and fourteen grandchildren. We have a small peach and fruit cocktail orchard and enjoy working with the fruit. We also enjoy traveling, fishing, four-wheeling, and time with family.
Chris Thompson, CPA
I am excited to be a member of the team here at Grand Mesa CPAs. Having started in public accounting in 2020, I approach each day as an opportunity to serve our clients by helping them navigate the complexities of finance and taxation. In addition to my CPA license, I hold a master’s degree in accounting. My areas of focus include financial reporting and accounting, business and personal tax preparation, as well as small business advisory. Previous to a career in public accounting, I spent 9 years involved in local real estate. While there, I focused on residential and commercial investment management.
When I am not at work, I try to enjoy everything the community of Western Colorado has to offer. In addition to serving on the board of a local service organization, I love spending time with my wife and dogs. We take pleasure in hiking, mountain biking, camping, as well as travel.
Ty, CPA
I have been working in the accounting profession and a CPA for over 20 years. I worked for one of the largest residential construction companies in the country in the accounting department. In addition, I have worked in the private and public sector as well as the mining industry performing feasibility analysis, SEC filings, audit and other accounting functions.
I’m blessed with a wife and three wonderful children that always keep me busy. We enjoy taking advantage of living in Grand Junction and everything it has to offer.
Mariah, E.A.
I have been working in the Tax and accounting services industry since 2016 and am a licensed Enrolled Agent since 2018 as well as a QuickBooks Online Advanced Certified ProAdvisor. I most enjoy the wealth of opportunities that this profession affords for continued learning and growth. There is always something new to learn. I joined GMCPAs in 2018 and enjoy working with this dynamic group of professionals.
In my time away from the office, I enjoy spending time with my husband, children, and grandchildren. I also enjoy travel, photography, crafting, and DIY projects.
Diana, Office Manager
I have thirteen years of experience in business administration and 9 years as office manager. I joined Grand Mesa CPAs in 2015 and enjoy the atmosphere here and the challenges given to me.
My husband and I have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. For leisure we enjoy family, friends, and outdoor activities.
Shantel, Staff Accountant
My career in public accounting began in 2017 after 15 successful years working as an Executive Assistant. My attention to detail and joy for crunching numbers allows me to focus on the bookkeeping and payroll side of accounting. I joined the Grand Mesa CPAs firm in 2020 and am thrilled to be a part of the team.
When away from the office, I can often be found dirt biking with my son and enjoying other outdoor activities the Grand Valley has to offer with family and friends.
Laura, Staff Accountant
I graduated with honors from Western New Mexico University with a bachelor’s in Accounting in May 2021, then entered the professional accounting services field shortly after with Grand Mesa CPAs. I look forward to working with the team here for many years to come. Currently, I have plans to attain my master’s in Accounting and CPA credentials after gaining some experience and building my professional skills.
During my time away from the office, I like to pick up a book and sit with my cat or try out some recipes I’ve found. When I’m not at home, I enjoy exploring trails and forest roads looking for new campsites with my family.
